Summary/Description[]

Ms. Marmalady is having a bad day – partly thanks to Spork and Spatch, who head to Butterbean's Café for something to cheer her up.

Plot[]

Unlike any other episode of the series so far, this one begins at Marmalady's Café where Spatch was moping the floor and Spork – well, just siting on the counter. Ms. Marmalady came in after yawning and went straight to asking them about how many customers they've had after they greeted her – when they haven't actually opened up for the day. Still sleepy, she went for milk from the fridge and after pouring it onto the counter, with Spatch the culprit after failing his attempt to cool off her tea, woke up. In her interaction with the viewer(s), she claims she has a rotten morning and needed something to get her out of it. The monkeys and Ms. Marmalady were on separate tables with either enjoying breakfast. Someone slipped a Puddlebrook magazine under the door; the monkeys took it and gave it to her. She wished she could have friends like them. Spork and Spatch, in their attempt to see it for themselves, combine to inadvertently pour Ms. Marmalady's breakfast onto the journal to soil it up. Ms. Marmalady got up and inadvertently kick the bucket, injuring her foot and making her cry. Not having anything in mind to do, but say, "Frowny…really frowny!" to each other, the monkeys headed for Butterbean's, with Spatch leaving behing a banana peel which was again inadvertently stepped upon by his/their boss, crashing into valuable things and utensils in the process. They saw a butterfly fly past and followed it to the rival café. Cricket had her moments with the butterfly too, making her big sister giggle. Upon trying to catch it, they end up being snapped by the umbrella. Butterbean and Cricket didn't see who was under it, but no had no surprise once the former opened it up agin. Cricket asked if they were spying on them again, which they responded negative. Butterbean asked if they should be at Marmalady's by now, Spatch said "she's really frowny"; showing the direction of Ms. Marmalady slamming the door guard. Butterbean suggested they make something to cheer up. She told them about how she'll bake a cake when her friends are feeling frowny. She invited them inside watced through the spyglass of Marmalady's. She thinks they've gone with her being alone at there. She held the spyglass holder as it went up and fell down with a wham after leaving it.

Back at Butterbean's, Dazzle told them that Jasper brought pineapples. Butterbean got an idea all of a sudden to make a pineapple upside-down cake to turn Ms. Marmalady's frown upside down; she connected the bean screen to the Beanitor to show them how to make it. Poppy asked for a hand and before Butterbean left for the kitchen, she counted on her little sister to make the monkeys feel right at home in the café. When Dazzle told Cricket to clear a table, the monkeys followed her, bumping to her and made Mr. Brookwrench make funny comments about "the new service". Cricket opted to show them how they can help around around and the monkeys high-fived and goofed at each other, making Cricket laugh. Thinking it was funny enough, they joined int he laughter. Ms. Marmalady looked jealous at them laughing as if to say, 'Are they friends now?' She started to look glum as she began feeling the effects of the monkeys not being there; she went back inside her kitchen. She heard the front door open and rushed out in delight that they're back – only to see Mrs. Brookbinder and Ms. Schruder. The former asked where Butterbean's Café is (the viewer(s) might wonder why her of all people, after numerous appearances at the café) which she showed her. She interacted with the viewer(s) wondering what the monkeys could be doing there.

Trivia[]

  • Spork and Spatch dropping Ms. Marmalady's breakfast to soil up the journal combined with Ms. Marmalady's inadvertent kick of the bucket was a deliberate inscription from the writer(s) to make light of Ms. Marmalady's bad morning in the face of preschool viewers.
  • This episode showed more in Ms. Marmalady's misconceptions about others which would be piercing for viewer(s).
